Zinedine Zidane deeply regrets head-butting Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final, according to a forthcoming book about the French legend.

Zidane marred a sparkling career when he head-butted Materazzi and received a red card during extra-time in the Final in Germany.

The ex-Juventus man has always refused to apologise for his actions, but it seems that some form of apology is finally on its way.

In a book by journalist Besma Lahouri called ‘The Hidden Face of Zidane’, it is revealed that Zidane told his cousin that he regrets his actions on that fateful day.

It is reported that when talking to his cousin Akbou in Algeria, Zidane said: “Don’t ever say I did well when I head-butted Materazzi. I didn’t do the right thing and I am sorry for that.”

This revelation may finally put an end to a saga that has grabbed the headlines on several occasions over the last two years

Bordeaux, well I thought they just gave up after the first two goals. It’s a shame because they have a good team – I particularly like Ramé.
I really hope Blanc will get some points from this group stage.

And Olympique Lyonnais, well they dominated the game, but Benzema doesn’t look as dangerous on the international stage as he does in the French Championship. It was a very entertaining game and I think a draw is fair enough.

One quibble – Some photoshop workup of you loving Big Phil Scolari by giving him a big wet kiss would have been nice.
