Claude Makelele Interview

For me, the funniest thing about Claude Makélélé is how English announcers pronounce his name. MACK-uh-Lay-lee, kind of rhymes with Ukelele. But of course that’s not important. It just strikes my funny bone every time I watch a game with English commentary like yesterday’s Carling Cup final.

But anyhow. I love the rare occasions when France players give in-depth interviews. And I doubly love it when they’re in English. In this case, double score! A very long and interesting interview with the normally reticent Claude Makélélé. (mah-Kay-leh-leh. In case you were wondering.) Including the crap he went through at Madrid.

Claude Makélélé interview.

And last week in his birthday post I said that he and Noemie Lenoir were married. Wikipedia still says so, but this article calls her his “partner.” Whatever. They’re together and have an adorable son. (Although how she allowed him out of the house in this outfit is anybody’s guess. Maybe she was off on a photo shoot? Or is it just so cutting edge that average people like me aren’t entitled to see the beauty of it? Especially that low-cut wifebeater muscle shirt.) But anyhow. How can you not love the originator of the Makélélé role?

Laurie – And you talk about Ronaldo. :-) What does your gay-dar tell you about Makélélé and that outfit?

It’s funny, Luis. The words “Makélélé” and “gay” had never even occupied the same planet in my mind before you mentioned this. (He was apparently quite the playboy before he got together with the supermodel.)

But now that you bring it up, this outfit does kind of scream, “Men! Take me now!”

The difference between The Pretty Ronaldo and Claude, though? As soon as Claude puts on different clothes, he looks straight. ;-)

hehe…you’re too funny. Give Ronaldo some time. I’m sure by the time he’s Claude’s age, he’ll have quite a few notches on his belt. It may derail his career, but my how much fun. :-) I guess he’ll have to get married and pregnant so he can carry around his kid instead of his man-bag.

OK, Laurie, now you got us discussing which player looks gayest… I mean…

BTW, I’m pretty sure Makele is a sweet and gentle person, a truelly family man, who has never ever (just like all the other football professionals), never indulged in “other” types of amusement (usually associated with international football players), like group sex, drugs, etc… Let alone being gay… No, no, no…

BTW, very good interview and also very good player. Makelele is one of my all time favourite players.

Even though he is gay… ;-) Playboy…!!! The oldest excuse… ;-)

Luis and Pedro: He’s not GAY, he’s just EUROPEAN!
