Is Louis Saha too Fragile for ManU?
What does that mean, you ask? Well, it means that the transfer rumor mill is running full speed ahead.
And which French players are rumored to be targets? Take your pick. It might be easier to list the players who aren’t targets. But you usually hear about it from the player, or the targeting team. It’s not often you hear from a current manager that he’s thinking about trading a player. But that’s the case with Louis Saha. From TribalFootball (which I know is not the most trustworthy site, but I’ve seen it echoed in other places as well, although perhaps not this bluntly):
The Manchester United future of striker Louis Saha will be decided this week. The Daily Mail says United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will hold talks with the injured striker’s agent in the coming days.
Ferguson is considering selling Saha this summer after becoming frustrated with his inability to stay fit. The Manchester United manager feels some of the French international’s problems are in his head and he will seek answers on this when he meets representatives of the Stellar Group. Ferguson said: “We feel he is fit but it’s question of him being confident that he is right.”
I hate to see this kind of thing. This is what causes players to play when they are actually injured and cause their bodies permanent damage. And yet what do I know, sitting on the outside a few thousand miles away? It does have to be frustrating to invest millions in a player with incredible potential, only to see him spending so much time off the field week after week after week.
Let’s cross our fingers and hope that he can come back fit and healthy and stay that way for at least the rest of the season!
Thanks to reader Sandrahn for tipping me off to this.

The EPL certainly isn’t known for being gentle. He might do better in a more technical league that isn’t reliant on tackles over strategy.
I would cry if Benzema ever went to England.

Inara, you’re thinking perhaps Ligue 1? Perhaps…say…Lyon?

Inara may be right – Saha may just not be able to take the Prem. And I can’t blame him, he’s not the only one, the injury rate in the Prem is appalling. It relies so much on rugby-style tackling, kicking players’ legs until they’re broken, etc. Look at Michael Owen, a fantastic striker, who’s basically lived out half his career (well it feels like half of it) injured. When he was at Madrid, he was fitter. He comes back to the Prem, he’s injured again.
