Not For the Squeamish — Cissé’s Back in Training

October 30th, 2006 | By: Laurie | 6 Comments »

I just read the good news that striker Djibril Cissé is back in training for Marseille (on loan from Liverpool and merrily dissing the Liverpudlians [yes, it's a real word -- look it up] to keep from getting sent back.) Can a return to Les Bleus be far behind? Let’s hope not. Because Djibril is the kind of guy who can make a blogger’s life interesting.

As Item A, let’s take a look at the most recent injury that took him out of commission. France-China friendly, June ‘06. Caution: This is not for the squeamish. You have been warned. So if you hit play and then end up cleaning up the remains of your lunch from your keyboard, don’t come whining to me.

And if that’s not enough, he had a similar injury, different leg, a year previously. (I don’t think the “Body By Milk” campaign will be calling any time soon.)

So what other reasons do bloggers have for eagerly anticipating the return of Djibril? Well, let’s see. The hair, maybe. And the tattoos. And the bling. And the possible anger management issues. And perhaps the arty, tasteful-yet-still-quite-nude photos that popped up when I ran an Image Search.

(No, I’m not going to share the links. That’s not the kind of thing a mom does. Even an Unofficial one. However, I will say that at the time the photos were taken, our man Djibril was looking quite fit.)

M. Cissé : Please work hard, drink your milk, and hurry back to Les Bleus!

His shin didn’t actually break in two. He got a fracture from putting too much weight on it, but that thing jutting out when he steps on the ground is his shinguard.

Oh, fine, Juan. Ruin my fun. I REALLY wanted to be in the running for “Most Disgusting Video Clip.”

Still, though, even if I watch this video thinking “shin guard,” my brain still says: “Ick.” Because there has to be some kind of force being applied to make it do that.

So, still: Ick.
