Zidane is so loved because of his talent and because of his dignity. Let the Beckams of this world prostitute themselves to the dollar or the pound or the yen or whatever. Zidane will forever be above all of that. Please let us remember ZZ for what he is. Not a sell out media construct like the talentless Beckham who has nothing more to sell than hype. ZZ this will diminish your legacy! Please leave our memory of you in tact you beautiful, beautiful man. ZZ is the greatest and most beatiful player that ever graced a football pitch. I did not watch football before I saw him play and cannot watch the game since he stopped playing but I could not bare to see him do this to himself. His legacy is far too important.

Oh sandrahn, you’re giving the US media too much credit. They will play over and over and over again pretty touch he executes, even if it’s only success of the game. If you tell ESPN someone is a superstar, they’ll take it and run with it.

If this happens I thoroughly dread what the US media is going to do with this: they’re replay the headbutt over and over and over and over again and not one piece of footage of him winning the world cup beating Brazil in ‘98 or any of his magical skills.

I am in utter shock that these rumours have reached the serious level. Until now I have dismissed these rumours entirely. I esp. dismissed rumours of zizou going to NY or Chicago because he doesn’t like cold weather climates (he was always uncomfortable in Turin while at Juve). He’s a guy who spent his life going to the beach for most of the year, that’s why he loved Spain so much. Also I just thought zizou has no interest in living in the US. Plus, re the Red Bulls rumours, I did wonder how in the world he and their awful coach Bruce Arena would ever ever work together.

All that said, I have read comments from him saying that he was seriously tempted to go back on his retirement last summer after the whole headbutt fallout, and that he’d had nightmares for weeks afterwards. Plus, having followed his activities pretty closely (on another site) since he retired, it’s been clear from his various public comments that he feels at a loss as to what to focus his life on after retirement. He’s said several times that he feels disorganized and constantly being asked by so many people to do various campaigns, promotions, etc., he feels at a loss. I don’t think he mentally prepared himself very well for retirement. And the whole headbutt aftermath didn’t help. I have mixed feelings about him playing for a low level league like the MLS. I’m dying to see him play again, football’s just not the same without him. Still, he’s going to be raked over the coals all over again by the media over this decision.

And as a New Yorker, I WILL BE INSANELY ENGRAGED IF HE DOESN’T COME HERE!!!!!
