Dang. Domenech’s Not the New DTN

There was some talk last week that Bleus coach Raymond Domenech would succeed Aimé Jacquet (beloved former Bleus coach and architect of their 1998 World Cup win) as Directeur Technique National upon Jacquet’s retirement. (I think I may have even read that Domenech was thinking about taking the post while remaining coach of Les Bleus??)
Not gonna happen. As of Monday or so, Jean-Pierre Morlans, Jacquet’s former assistant, has been named to the post.
This disappoints me. Because had Raymond gotten the job…
Well, just think how many completely new people he could have pissed off.
UPDATE: Just found an update and it appears I was only partially correct. Morlans is taking over the job, but only for six months. Domenech is still in the running for the permanent spot (as is Lyon’s Gerard Houllier.) And if Domenech were selected, he would, in fact, attempt to hold both positions. So he would actually have DOUBLE the number of possibilities to piss people off! Ooh, this could be interesting!
(I am starting to love the quirky, complex and upredictable Raymond Domenech. Shhh! Don’t tell anybody!)
