Its a beautiful day: President of the French Football Federation Resigns

Jean Pierre Escalettes

How’s your ego feeling now Jean Pierre?

After years of mistakes, coverups and refusing to change a broken system Jean Pierre Escalettes has finally resigned as President of the French Football Federation.  Needless to say- I think this has been a long-time coming – the problems France had at the World Cup were neither sudden nor unpredictable.  They were issues that manifested themselves over a series of years without being dealt with or addressed.  As President of the Federation, Escalettes perhaps is not at fault for all that went awry (to put it mildly),but he was certainly in a position to prevent the explosion had he been willing to set aside his own pride.  So, Jean Pierre: Let this be a lesson to you as I’m sure that resigning as a public disgrace has sent your ego through the ringer.  You had many opportunities to correct your mistakes (namely keeping Domenech)-but you wanted to save face.  The only happiness I have found in this situation is to now watch everything blow up in your face!  I cannot say its not deserved as us fans have been dealt blow after blow since 2006.  Good Riddance!

More details to come….

I hope they don't promote someone from within, or else we're going to have the exact same situation. We need someone new, from the outside, who doesn't see things the way escalettes did.

The problem is they can't promote someone from the outside. That's the law. The president is elected within the federation. To change that you've got to change the law.
That's why Sarkozycalled for “états généraux du football”.
So in the near future ther'll have to be a compromise. The federation board is made with people from amateur and professionnal football, and the president has to be backed by both worlds. On friday we'll know if the whole board resigns or if the y name an acting president within the board until the next elections in sdecember.
What they could also do is to appoint someone who'd be specificaly in charge of the French team; and who could be a professional so the French team would be managed like a professional club.
I really hope they have learnt from this World Cup that the French team management has to be changed. from the interviews of officials i heard on RMC, some people did learn but the whole board is not ready yet to resign, especially on the amateur side who backed Escalettes.
And maybe the promotion of a stronger man can do until things are changed from within.

Wow, this post is seriously ridiculous. Instead of looking at the picture from the outside, which you seem to be doing, you should look within since you are a supporter of France, correct? As president, this guy got the team a huge shirt deal and solid sponsorship deals, which brought the federation out of financial trouble when it was close to ruins. Simonet left the federation in shambles and Escalettes got it back on its feet, something people probably don't know or just don't care about. Not to mention getting the country EURO 2016 and increasing the visibility of amateur football here in the country. I do agree that his ego got the best of him regarding keeping Domenech on but that was only because the France 98 guys like Deschamps who have even bigger egos were out to get him and Escalettes felt the best way to one up them was to keep Domenech on, which was silly.

Escalettes was forced out, plain and simple. The WC debacle was everyone's fault, but, as president, you have to take responsibility and he has. People who look at it from the outside only look at what happened at the WC and that's all well and good, but people who support France should look at not only the negatives, but also the positive things he's done during his tenure.

I would like to see a classy fellow like Deachamp take over. I think he would give us instant respect and credibility that has been lacking for a long time.
