Gourcuff scores for Lyon, gaining confidence?

Last night there was a spectacular Ligue 1 showdown between Giants Lyon and rising stars Lille. If you missed it I truely feel sorry for you. Just about every French player on both teams had a fantastic night. Except for Adil Rami, he seemed very frustrated during the match and practically teed up the goal for Gourcuff.

The most important thing that happened last night was the the progression of Gourcuff. His ego was completely destroyed after the World Cup and his move to Lyon. However, last night he resembeled the player he was during the 2008-09 season with Bordeaux. Exquisite.

I was a bit nervious during the France-Romania match when Blanc put in Gourcuff for Nasri, but he seemed to have no doubts after scoring on the last minute. He also had a great goal against Luxembourg, showing one of his greatest talents, distance shots.

I think that finally the clouds above Yoann are disappearing and now he will be able to focus on his career with France and Lyon.

Hugo Lloris also had a great match, he is really showing his skill day in and day out, hard to believe that some still think he is not amongst the best in the world.

Mousa Sow also had a very actobatic goal last night. A Bicycle kick over Hugo Lloris.Highlights are avaliable here.

This is one of the matches available in the states on foxsoccer.tv. I watched parts of the match to see the highpoints. I can't speak for Goucuff's overall play, but the goal was a gift from Rami. (I hope Rami has that out of his system. Row Z, Adil!)

Another match that I watched in full was Lens-Rennes. M'Vila is playing SO defensively. I've seen central defenders getting forward more often. They kept a clean sheet, so the emphasis on defending was successful, but M'Vila looks like he could be a box-to-box midfielder, and he's not being used that way for Rennes (at least not for games away to Lens).

I think Benzema and Gourcuff will be meteoric stars in the new France team, and I think we will we be contenders in the Euro 2012.
