Squad Update

There have been some squad updates since Sarah’s post on Thursday. Yesterday some very concerning news was released that Lassana Diarra may not be fit to play for France, again…

Apparently he picked up a hamstring strain during his match against Mallorca.

This morning the FFF’s official website announced two new names to be added to the French Squad that will face Belarus and Bosnia. They are Olympique Lyonnais’ Anthony Reveillere And Lille’s Yohan Cabaye.

I’m sure most of you are thrilled to see these names, especially Cabaye. I would have liked to see Pedretti as well, but this is a great squad. Now with Lassana Diarra out I think that M’vila’s chances of some playing time increased dramatically.

How do you feel about the new selections? Please let us know!

This was a small update that I felt was worthy of a post, for other updates you can follow me and Sarah on Twitter.

Allez les Bleus!

I can't quibble with the selection. This is as good a squad as France can field at the moment.

Definitely. I'm sure we can handle Belarus and Bosnia with this squad. Imagine if we had Nasri and Gourcuff? I think that since we are facing Belarus at home we can win like 4-0 if we try. Bosnia will be tough on the road. It seems like France is always uncomfortable in Eastern Europe.

I'm desperately hoping for some good performances. I would LOVE to see some of the young players break through and have an impact (and then go on to be consistent).

what blanc should do is built a team around a french club with lots of french players like spain did with barca and germany with munich. blanc should make a team around lyon(briand, toulalan, lloris, gourcuff and gonalons).

It's easy to make a team around Barcelona or Bayern. Most of the best Spanish players play for Barcelona and most of the best German players play for Bayern Munich (or, they used to before moving to La Liga). Blanc should similarly build his team around the best French players–i.e., Malouda and Nasri. I'm not convinced that Gonalons or Briand (or even Toulalan) are among the best French players. And if Blanc were building his side around a club team, one could make the case that he should build the team around Arsenal (Nasri, Diaby, Sagna, Clichy, Squillaci, Koscielny) or OM (Gignac, Remy, Cheyrou, Valbuena, Ben Arfa (well, not Ben Arfa…)) instead of Lyon. But if Lyon wins Ligue 1 and makes the CL finals this year, you will have proven me wrong, and I would agree that putting as many Lyon players on the team as possible would probably be a good idea.

There's something to the idea of building the team around a group of players who know each other well, but they don't have to be currently playing for the same club. It doesn't seem like an issue that Brazil or the France team from 1998 would worry about.

A big step forward for France would be selecting players in form.
